Welcome to another “Farmhaus Inspiration” brainstorm. This time… let’s chat about some amazing farmhaus LAUNDRY ROOMS!
Now, the laundry room may not be that big of a deal to anyone else in my home… But, I on the other hand, spend a fair amount of time in my current laundry room! I want this space to feel calm and serene as I am pre-treating the stains in my son’s clothing DAILY!! Yes, the boy is a human wrecking ball… come to think of it, I am not sure there is a single blade of grass that hasn’t been loved on by that kiddo! My current laundry room functions pretty well, but I tend to run out of key space… such as a large multitasking sink for chores, counter space to fold clothes and complete daily projects, and a storage area for tall cleaning supplies. So without further adieu… here are some key features I am investigating!
First things first….I am on the hunt for a BIG farmhaus sink. From washing cheer shoes (yes the have to be spotless and white… even though they cheer on grassy fields… do I have any other cheer mom’s with me?); stain removal from clothing (no more explanation… there is a lot of stain removal happenin’ up in here); to filling up cleaning buckets (ugh…I have no words!). I use our laundry room sink for absolutely EVERYTHING! Currently, I have a deep sink in our laundry room and it works well for large buckets and single tasks. One of the only problems is that it is not wide enough for my multi-tasking capabilities! Ok mamas, you all know we need to pre-treat clothing, wash a window or two, and make sure the sports gear is clean, dry, and ready for practice… all before the kids get home from school! Often times I find myself removing an item from the sink to get access to the faucet to fill a bucket for a simple house chore… so I am constantly playing the shuffle game. The search is on for a sink that is wide as well as deep and has multiple bowls! Here are some fantastic laundry room sinks I have found…
This sink is a winner! It is a stainless steel apron front utility sink. Currently I have an apron front stainless steel sink in my kitchen and I LOVE it! I know this material will work well in the laundry room! I like the continuity of the built in back splash that rises to the window sill! The divider in the middle easily allows differentiation of tasks. This sink also stands alone on a simple base which is not part of the cabinet configuration. This aspect is a little different, yet appealing to the eye, and I think I like it especially since the sink and window combination will be a focal point in the farmhaus laundry room!! I could add baskets for storage underneath the sink allowing added texture to be brought into this small room. Also, notice the cute little light above the sink… I will be getting to that in a minute!
Here is a different version of an apron front stainless steel sink with a built in back splash but is not divided. This option is built into the cabinet configuration giving way to a clean look. I like the way the sink is the same color as the counter top giving a look of continuity! Something to ponder…
Ok… I can’t even explain how much I love this rusted old sink! Three bowels makes this sink simply ah-mazing!
This stand alone, apron front, white porcelain sink gives another option. The over sized faucet handles are a fun touch!
Are you seeing a pattern here? I am pretty sure I love sinks with a built in back splash and will definitely be choosing the apron front option! Our sink will need multiple bowls but I am still debating whether or not multiple faucets are necessary. Last, I will figure out what material will best complement my counter top and cabinet choices…. stainless or porcelain, stand alone or built in… decisions, decisions!
Since I am typically up late at night scrubbing in my laundry room… I am choosing to do it in style! I am looking for the cutest barn light to fix on the wall over the large window and extend over the farmhouse sink. I am head over heels for wall mounted goose neck barn lighting and I am positive I will be a much happier mama scrubbing under one of these precious lights. With a quick search on Lamps Plus, I found a few fun options…
Now let’s address another dilemma…. counter space! Due to the face that our mudroom will be a new home for pesky items such as purses, backpacks, and other various things that clutter my current laundry room counter… I am taking my laundry room counter space back! When designing the layout for this small room I was conscious about adding as much counter space as possible. I will be extending the counter top over our washer and dryer to maximize counter surface area. This allows ample room for sorting and folding laundry, wrapping gifts, laying out materials for a DYI project, and all of the other various tasks and chores I work on in this small space. The counter configuration will look something like this…
My brain is going a million miles a minute just dreaming about all of the possibilities for those continuous counter tops!
Last on my list… I desperately need a tall cabinet to contain cleaning and extra household supplies. One side of the cabinet will be dedicated to my taller cleaning items such as my broom, central vacuum attachments, and long dusters. The other side will be pull out shelving containing the cleaning supplies. Confession…. I am getting a little bit excited just talking about organization for the laundry room… is that weird? I am telling you… I can’t help it, I am totally OCD about cleanliness and organization! Although I couldn’t find a picture that completely captured what I was planning for this tall cabinet space… here are a few features that are getting me all worked up…
This cabinet is close to the look I would like for our tall cabinet storage. I like the smaller cabinets on top that cleanly extend to the ceiling. I would use this space to store extra household items like the year supply of zip-lock baggies, toilet paper, and paper towels that I purchase at Costco. Hee Hee!
The tall space in the following cabinet allows for easy storage of tall cleaning tools such as brooms, dusters, step ladders (yes, I am short and need such devices!), and long vacuum attachments.
Love the hook organization for the mop, broom, and duster… all lined up and looking good!
Full roll out drawers are a must for one side of our cabinet! I hate when I dig through my cleaning cabinet and bump one can with my elbow and just like dominoes they all fall over…. ultimately spilling the comet powder on the floor. Ugh… just another mess to clean up! Full roll out drawers will allow me to find what I need in a jiffy and save me countless headaches!
You may be wondering…. where is the ironing board? Well my friends, ironing is a task I simply am not good at! I end up ironing more wrinkles into the garment than out! So… I am embracing my shortfall and will not be putting an ironing board in this farmhaus! SHOCKER… I know! But keep following the Farmhaus Inspiration posts to see how this farm girl chooses to handle our pesky wrinkles without an iron…. this little secret will soon be revealed in the master closet plan!
That is all for now my friends… off to find more inspirational ideas for the next room reveal!
