Call me old fashioned, but I simply love big open dining rooms. When entertaining my guests I strive to seat everyone at one large table to promote fun conversation. A multiple course dinner spanning three to four hours with plenty of wine flowing, story sharing, and laughter is true perfection in my book. Upon entering the home I am staging on DaVinci Court, you are immediately greeted by a large room which contains the living room and dining room. This home is an entertainers dream! I truly love open floor plans, however, finding the correct furnishings to create the feel you are promoting is a must!
The dining room in this home is conveniently located between the kitchen and the living room. This is an ideal location for bringing hot dishes from the kitchen to the table. This area is designated for a large table by the chandelier hung above this space.
When choosing home furnishings I prefer to look for solid hard wood pieces. When I found this one of a kind table at our wholesale furniture shop…. I knew it was the perfect piece for this dining room. The table is a grand size and perfectly seats six friends with plenty of room to pull up a few more chairs if needing to host additional guests. The thing I like best about the table is the top is composed of large solid wood planks. I adore the way the planks are distressed and vary slightly in color. Although it took three grown men heaving and hoeing with a whole lot of rest stops to get it through the door and set into place… I think it was well worth everyone’s effort! Just feast your eyes on this beautiful piece…
The chairs I selected to accompany this amazing table were simple in shape. I wanted chairs that highlighted the table and didn’t distract from it’s natural beauty. Since the key features in this home are slightly more modern and linear, I decided to keep the lines on the chair clean and straight. I thought the clavos detailing added a perfectly simple touch of metal to coordinate with the dark metal chandelier that hangs above the table. The the natural linen fabric gives these chairs a relaxed feel, yet the details create a polished look which would be acceptable for a formal dinner party. Let me tell you…. not only are these chairs versatile, but they are also super comfy and will be the ideal landing spot for guests!
Once the table and chairs were in place, it was time to choose a centerpiece! When it comes to table decor, I typically do not decorate with place settings. There are a few times a year that I will actually set a formal table for my guests. However, when I set my table with place mats, chargers, linen napkins, and dishes it is for that day and event only. As for every day decor, I prefer just a simple, casual centerpiece. I am often inspired by nature and currently in California the weather has been in the high 70 degrees and everything is in full bloom including one of my all time FAVORITE trees…. the magnolia! Check out this beauty in the neighborhood… LOVE!
These blooms are truly inspiring!
When shopping at our local Home Goods, I stumbled across these beautiful faux magnolia branches! I simply loved the feel of the soft velvety flower petals and the monochromatic color scheme… for a faux plant I was impressed with how real the petals looked and felt! I just knew these would make a gorgeous centerpiece. First, I placed a vintage white ruffled table runner down the middle of the table. I then added a second runner of burlap down the center of the table runner for extra depth and texture. I carefully placed the magnolia branches on top of the layered runners being sure to twist and turn the buds to face opposing directions as seen on an actual tree. I placed some mix matched candlesticks at various heights through the branches and topped them off with different types of textured balls.
On one candlestick I added a small bird for a whimsical look. I am absolutely smitten with this small cement bird!
This table boasts natural beauty from the hand scraped hard wood; to the contrasting textures of layered burlap, linen and velvety flowers; to the fun touch of whimsy with our little bird friend. I am in awe with the way the dining area came together!
This space is ready for entertaining!
Here is a little peek at my next reveal… the kitchen…
