Valentine’s Day fell midweek this year and due to our busy schedules I knew it was going to be tough to make time to show my hubby just how much he means to me! Each Valentines I try to do a little something to show my appreciation for everything he does for our family. I know I have been raving about the selection of berries I have seen in our local grocery stores….but I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw these strawberries! They were HUGE and had the most elegant long stems.
I knew exactly what I was going to do with these ripe red beauties…
As I opened the package I could almost hear them screaming CHOCOLATE! Yes… these were the perfect strawberries to enjoy smothered in sweet chocolate! The best part is that my kids were able to join me and help with the surprise for dad. We promptly washed the berries and laid them out to fully dry. A wet surface will not allow the chocolate to adhere and harden to the berry.
We then put the chocolate in a glass dish and placed it into the microwave. We heated the chocolate on high in 45 second intervals until it was completely melted. I used Enjoy Life chocolate, however, any chocolate chip will work just fine. After the chocolate was smooth and melted we began to dip our berries.
Having the long stem made the berries easy for the kids to handle. Once the strawberry was completely covered we added some Valentine sprinkles before the chocolate hardened. (The sprinkles were my daughters thoughtful addition to the treat… already starting to think like her mama! LOVE her!)
We allowed the chocolate to cool and harden onto the berries while we ate our family dinner and eventually put the kiddos to bed. Of course they were able to enjoy their delicious berries before we said good night!
Once the kids were nestled into their beds, I was free to make my Valentine dessert tray for my love. I collected a pillow from the chaise in our room, added a valentine sign from a display in the house, and placed the gorgeous strawberries on a dish. I often try to find new ways to use interior decor items I around my house. It allows me to get creative with what I already have and not spend a fortune buying new items for each project!
I desired a little more color on the tray especially since the vibrant red berries were now covered in dark brown chocolate! Earlier in the day I was admiring some bushes in our yard had started to bloom. I moseyed outside and collected a freshly bloomed camellia which gave my display a splash of color and was the perfect hue for Valentines. I love bringing natural exterior beauty into my home… especially things I see in our yard! It is a simple, inexpensive way to jazz up your interior decor…. I do it ALL the time! I lit a few candles and I was ready to spend some quality time with the love of my life!
It was the perfect end to our Valentine’s Day!
