I love celebrating the holidays with my kiddos! As my children get older, I find myself holding on to our family traditions in hopes that they will cherish these memories for years to come. One of our most treasured traditions is our Valentine’s Day breakfast. Often times family dinners are dictated by the amount of time I have to get it cooked and on the table due to the fact that we tend to get extremely busy in the afternoon with fun extra curricular activities. Breakfast on the other hand, is a perfect way to show my appreciation for my family and get their Valentine’s Day off to a lovely start.
Typically our weekday breakfasts are VERY simple to ensure all probability that we will make it out the door on time! Most days breakfasts consist of cereal, oatmeal, or toast along with some fruit. So a “special” breakfast in my opinion is any breakfast that requires me to turn on the oven or stove! Ha ha!
On Valentines I like to wake up a little early and make my little loves a warm breakfast. This Valentines it was going to be heart shaped pancakes with a fresh berry salad all to be washed down with steamy cup of cocoa topped with marshmallows. I mean…let’s get this sugar fest started! I am always impressed with the berry selection around Valentines… our local grocery stores are stocked with all kinds of fresh berries. For this breakfast I chose strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and my kids all time favorite… raspberries. I carefully sliced the strawberries into hearts to add some festive flair to the plate. Simple, delicious, and the kids were very excited to start their day with a special treat from mom!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
